SmartAcquirer: A flexible and open processing engine

SmartAcquirer is designed using a modular, object-oriented software model that makes this solution a versatile and portable system - one that delivers performance in the real world, without giving up the flexibility to customize systems for different applications and implementations.

The 'intelligence', or device-specific systems, are kept as far from the software core as possible: this allows us to create new modules or subsystems to handle new technologies without ever compromising the overall system integrity, and to offer the shortest development turnaround available.

SmartAcquirer Sub-modules

In addition to our CommLink and NTM technologies, which drive the system, SmartAcquirer has several key modules to perform intelligent processing services.

ATM Subsystem: Responsible for handling all traffic to and from
ATMs and ATM communications systems

SCD Subsystem: The primary Network handling module for authorization of ATM-originated transactions

IDP Subsystem: Designed for handling the authorization of transactions originating at a POS device

Downstream Switch Management: A subsystem module designed to handle inbound traffic from switch/host applications which require a gateway to processing networks

Encryption Subsystem: Built-in support for several leading encryption systems, using various methods of communication

DataXchange: A subsystem responsible for all logging, debugging and database management within SmartAcquirer.

ATM Subsystem

The ATMSwitcher module is responsible for handling all traffic to and from ATMs and ATM communications systems. By defining a consistent interface for handling of all ATMs (regardless of actual type), SmartAcquirer is able to rapidly route data between unlimited network points; this design allows the ATM subsystem to manage ATMs without requiring any knowledge of manufacturer-specific protocols or messaging, and allows us to rapidly develop support for new terminals or value-added services. ATMSwitcher is also responsible for establishing and maintaining both direct communication links (with leased-line ATMs) and indirect links to ATM communications systems (including both dial-up processing systems, such as SmartConnect, and concentrator/sub-processor systems).

SCD Subsystem

SCDSwitcher is the primary network handling module for authorization of ATM-originated transactions. SCD/ATM-Network handling objects are built following a common internal specification, which allows SCDSwitcher to manage an unlimited number of network connections without any specific knowledge of messaging formats or processing parameters. Upon receiving a transaction request from the ATM subsystem, SCDSwitcher will determine the optimum processing route, based on user-defined preferences, and pass the transaction to the corresponding object for processing. The transparency of this processing model allows for rapid development of interfaces to different authorization networks, as well as private or proprietary processing systems. SCDSwitcher is also responsible for handling transactions inbound from gateway networks (for processing by a hosted private institution or issuing system, such as SmartIssuer).

IDP Subsystem

Designed for handling the authorization of transactions originating at a POS device, IDPSwitcher follows the same design principles as SCDSwitcher. While it usually works alongside SCDSwitcher to provide authorization services (and handle inbound issuer traffic), IDPSwitcher is defined as a separate subsystem to allow greater flexibility in system setup and scaling.

Downstream Switch Management

DSASwitcher is a subsystem module designed to handle inbound traffic from switch/host applications which require a gateway to processing networks. Following the same transparency model as SmartAcquirer's other processing modules, DSASwitcher is able to act as a Network Gateway for an unlimited number of smaller acquiring systems by 'spoofing' or simulating the network protocols expected by the downstream system. This allows older, less flexible systems to be migrated to new or modified networks without requiring the investment and risk of new development. It can also be used to 'pool' smaller acquirers together for more efficient or cost-effective connections to large processing networks.

Encryption Subsystem

SmartAcquirer has built-in support for several leading encryption systems, using various methods of communication. A transparent design allows for rapid development of handler objects for new device types or connectivity methods when required, as well as easy fault-tolerance and backup systems. A fully-featured software encryption system provides a cost-effective, fully-functional testing environment.

DataXChange

The DataXChange subsystem is responsible for all logging, debugging and database management within SmartAcquirer. DataXChange also manages all connectivity with network client programs used for system and device monitoring and management.
